Netflix has unveiled the premiere date for the animated series “Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft,” based on the iconic action-adventure video game franchise.
The show hits the streamer Oct. 10 with Hayley Atwell taking on the titular role of the intrepid British archaeologist.
According to an official logline, the series picks up after the events of the “Survivor” trilogy of games (“Tomb Raider,” “Rise of the Tomb Raider” and “Shadow of the Tomb Raider”) when “Lara Croft has abandoned her friends to embark on increasingly more perilous solo adventures. But she must return home when a dangerous and powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor by a thief with an uncanny personal connection. Her daring pursuit will take her on an adventure around the world and to the depths of forgotten tombs, where she will be forced to confront her true self, and decide just what kind of hero she wants to become.”
Other cast members include Allen Maldonado and Earl Baylon, who will reprise his role as Jonah Maiava from the game series.
The original “Tomb Raider” video game was released in 1996 on the Sega Satrun by developers Core Design and Aspyr and had sold over 2.5 million units by 1997. As of 2024, 20 “Tomb Raider” games have been released.
“Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft” is written and executive produced by Tasha Huo (“The Witcher: Blood Origin”). Executive producers include Dmitri M. Johnson, Timothy I. Stevenson, Jacob Robinson, Dallas Dickinson, Noah Hughes, Howard Bliss and Jen Chambers. Legendary Television produces.
