Travis Scott Released From Police Custody After Dramatic Paris Arrest


Updated– Houston-born rapper Travis Scott has been released from custody in Paris after being arrested Friday morning, and local authorities do not plan to file charges in the future.

A source close to Scott told Variety that the singer had been surrounded by photographers and fans all week while in Paris and was upset with his bodyguard for not adequately protecting him. Multiple videos posted to social media show Scott begging photographers and fans to leave him alone and calling for police help. Instead, the source says police overreacted and arrested Scott and held him for 24 hours for an altercation. We’re told no physical violence occurred.

The Paris prosecutor's office also confirmed that no charges were brought against Scott because the crime was not sufficiently described.

Scott was arrested in Paris on Friday morning after a confrontation with a security guard outside the five-star George V Hotel, which is located off the Champs-Élysées. Contacted by Variety, a hotel representative declined to comment, saying: “The investigation is ongoing.”

In a statement sent to diverse“We are in direct contact with local Parisian authorities to resolve this matter quickly and will provide updates when appropriate,” a Scott representative said.

According to local media, Scott and one of his bodyguards were arguing near the hotel when a security guard intervened. Police were then called to the hotel at 5 a.m. local time to break up the fight. The Paris prosecutor's office confirmed the reports in a statement sent to diverse.

A source close to the rapper said he got into a fight with his bodyguard over his security because he had been “stalked and harassed by paparazzi” for days and was not getting help.

The source said there were no reports of injuries, adding that Scott was expected to be released soon.

Scott was in Paris for this year's Olympics and was spotted at the USA men's basketball semifinal against Serbia on Thursday night.

Local media reported that several people who were present at the brawl said Scott was heavily intoxicated at the time of the brawl and refused to take a breath test. One employee at the George V Hotel said: diverse Travis was “drunk” when he showed up at the hotel.

Scott was previously arrested for disorderly intoxication and trespassing in June after an altercation on a yacht in Miami Beach, Florida. He was released on bail after paying a $500 fine for disorderly intoxication and $150 for trespassing.

Scott's trip to Paris comes during a break in his “Circus Maximus” tour, which recently wrapped up its European leg in Portugal and is scheduled to resume in Santiago, Chile, on September 7 before concluding in Las Vegas in November.
