The band will take “appropriate action” in addition to donating proceeds from use to the Harris/Walz campaign.
US President Donald Trump has angered another artist with his unauthorized use of music, this time the Foo Fighters after Trump played the band's song “My Hero” at a rally in Arizona on Friday.
At the campaign event, Trump revealed that independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had suspended his campaign and endorsed the Republican nominee. As Kennedy Jr. welcomed the crowd to the stage, the Foo Fighters' 1997 hit was played over the speakers.
When asked on social media if the band had given permission to use “My Hero,” the Foo Fighters simply replied, “No.” They confirmed that the use of the song was unauthorized in a subsequent tweet:
The band's representative confirmed Billboard“The Foo Fighters were not asked for permission, and if they were, they did not grant it,” they added, adding that the band would take “appropriate action” to prevent further use of “My Hero,” and that any proceeds they received from using the Trump rally would instead be donated to the campaign of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
Trump's latest music saga comes just days after Beyoncé threatened to halt Trump's campaign after a 13-second video using her song “Freedom” — also Harris's unofficial campaign song — was posted on X by Trump spokesman Stephen Cheung.
Since he first announced his run for president nearly a decade ago, Trump has been notorious for using music at his campaign rallies without the artists' permission, with the former president receiving backlash and legal threats from dozens of musicians over the unauthorized use of their songs.
