US President Donald Trump lasted only two minutes in his speech accepting the nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris before launching into a wide-ranging public attack.
Moments after Harris took the stage Thursday at the Democratic National Convention, it became clear that the former president — and her 2024 opponent — were glued to the TV in a hate-filled watch-through for all eternity.
“Here she comes to the arena,” was the first of about 50 angry posts in a Truth Social meltdown that began when Harris entered the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, and continued long after she left the stage.
Notable reactions to Harris's remarks include:
“Is she talking about me?”
“There's so much talk about childhood, and we have to deal with borders, inflation, and crime!”
“Waltz was an assistant coach, not a coach.”
“She said so many thank yous so fast, what's going on with her?”
“It was the cause of the October 7 attack.”
The former president was particularly irked by Harris’s description of the expansive plans he and his allies have made to restrict reproductive rights. Harris said Trump “would limit access to contraception, ban medication abortion, and enact a nationwide abortion ban, with or without Congress.” She added that Trump “plans to create a national anti-abortion coordinator and force states to report women’s miscarriages.”
“Put simply, they’ve lost their minds,” Harris concluded. “And we have to ask: Why exactly do they not trust women?”
Harris was describing the components of Project 2025, a conservative staff and policy program created to help the next GOP president (read: Trump) quickly impose a far-right agenda.
Trump has been actively trying to evade the project in recent months, because his plans are not widely accepted, and he has been unhappy about being linked back to his proposals.
“I am not restricting access to birth control… That is a lie, these are all false stories made up by her, and I have never heard of them. They are just words coming out of her mouth,” Trump wrote. “I trust women too, and I will keep women safe! She will not, because invading our country through her open borders is destroying women’s lives, African American and Latino families and jobs.”
Trump only stopped posting to call into Fox News, where he attacked anchors Bret Baier and Martha McCallum. When McCallum pointed out that Harris was gaining in several polls and key demographics, Trump responded, “She’s not doing well. I’m doing well.”
Trump responded by saying, “I’m having great success with Hispanic voters, I’m having great success with black men, I’m having great success with women because women want safety. They’re not going to be safe when somebody lets 20 million people into our country.”
“No, they only have it in your eyes, Martha,” the former president complained.
Throughout the phone call, the former president appeared so confused that he repeatedly — by mistake — pressed buttons on his phone, interrupting his statement with a series of beeps.
Hosts I finally cut it off.ostensibly because it's time for a special edition of Fox's most embarrassing show: Gotfield!
But Trump wasn’t done yet, and within minutes he was calling into Newsmax to cover the Democratic National Convention live. There, the former president complained that Harris hadn’t mentioned “trafficking in women” in her speech, and suggested that he and the hosts take a trip to Caracas, Venezuela.
He was still accidentally pressing buttons on his phone during the call.
“He's a very special man,” anchor Greg Kelly said when the former president finally hung up the phone.
