The U.S. Olympic swimming team won gold, silver and bronze medals on Saturday.
4x100m Team USA The men's freestyle relay team won the United States' first gold medal of the 2024 Olympics in Paris, beating second-place Australia.
The relay team of Caeleb Dressel, Jack Alexie, Chris Giuliano and Hunter Armstrong led Australia by 1.07 seconds. Italy took the bronze. The United States dominated the event, having won 10 of the last 13 Olympics, with Dressel claiming his eighth Olympic gold medal in Paris on Saturday.
Before the men's gold, the U.S. women's 4×100-meter freestyle relay team — featuring Kate Douglas, Gretchen Walsh, Tori Huskey and Simone Manuel — won silver in their heat and set a new U.S. record in the event with a time of 3:30.20. Australia took gold and set a new Olympic record with a time of 3:28.92, while China took bronze.
The United States earned its first medal in Paris as Sarah Bacon and Cassidy Cook took silver in the 3-meter synchronized springboard.
Team USA's Katie Ledecky also won bronze in the women's freestyle final. She is the most decorated swimmer in history, with six gold medals. Saturday's bronze will give her the 11th Olympic medal of her career. Ledecky will also compete in the 800 and 1,500 meters, where she is likely to win gold.
The United States has won five medals so far: one gold, two silver and two bronze, including American cyclist Chloe Dygert's bronze in the women's individual time trial in road cycling.
