Christine Myers, a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, has joined Sounds Profitable, a podcast industry research and promotion firm, as a principal. She will work alongside founder Brian Barletta and partner Tom Webster to expand the firm’s consulting capabilities.
Myers joins Sounds Profitable after serving as executive director of business development and podcasting at talent agency UTA. By hiring Myers, the company aims to help clients explore “untapped opportunities spanning adjacent industries such as film, television, books, gaming, nonprofits, and emerging technologies.”
“Podcasting is now an inescapable word in media. It has survived two decades of open growth, pandemic-induced booms and busts, and more than its fair share of SNL jokes at its expense, but in the end, it has proven its global value as a form of entertainment and information,” said Barletta. “Adding Kristen to the Sounds Profitable team adds tremendous value to our existing partners while simultaneously enhancing what we have built over the past four years for major industries that fully understand that audio and podcasting must be part of their game plan.”
Myers' deep background in audio content includes work at Stitcher, at startup Anchor (acquired by Spotify in 2019), and at Dan Harmon's Starburns Audio as creative director.
“There is a meaningful connective tissue forming between sound and all other forms of media and storytelling. The task is no longer about defining sound. Rather, it is about reimagining its role and how it can make an impact,” Myers said.
Myers was expected to reveal her move to Sounds Profitable on Tuesday during a scheduled appearance at the Podcast Movement conference in Washington, D.C.
