W. Kamau Bell Named Host of 45th Annual Documentary Emmy Awards


The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has selected Emmy and Peabody Award-winning comedian W. Kamau Bell as host of the 45th Annual Emmy Awards for Documentary Feature Films on September 26.

Last year, Bell won the Children's & Family Emmy Award for Outstanding Nonfiction Program for “1000% Me: Growing Up Mixed.”

“When we met Camus at the Kids & Families Emmy Awards with his daughters Samaya and Juno, we knew he would be a compelling and entertaining host,” said Adam Sharp, NATAS Chairman and CEO. “His sensitivity and expertise are a perfect fit, especially for the documentary community.”

The 45th Annual Emmys Awards for News and Documentary will be held live at the Palladium Times Square in New York City and will be streamed live on the dedicated viewing platform NATAS, as well as available on the web at watch.theemmys.tv and via the Emmys apps for iOS, tvOS, Android, FireTV and Roku.

In addition to honoring winners in 65 News and Documentary Emmy categories, NATAS will induct new members into the Gold and Silver Circle.

  • Rita Braver, National Correspondent for CBS News' Sunday Morning
  • Maria Antonietta Collins, Journalist and TV Presenter, Univision
  • Marvin Kalb, NBC News Chief Diplomatic Correspondent, CBS News, Meet the Press

Silver Circle – News 2024 Honorees:

  • Catherine McKenzie, Executive Producer, ABC News
  • Javier Morgado, Executive Producer of “New Day” and “Early Start”, CNN
  • Eduardo Suarez, Vice President of Program Production, CNN en Español
  • Pierre Thomas, ABC News Chief Justice Correspondent

Golden Circle – Documentary Honorees 2024:

  • Tom Spain, Director of Cinematography and Vice President and Editorial Director, Simon & Schuster Audio

Silver Circle – 2024 Documentary Honorees:
