The country guitarist makes his third SNL appearance with two tracks from his latest album, Higher
Country singer-songwriter Chris Stapleton performed two tracks from Higher, his fifth studio album which came out last November, on Saturday Night Live.
Stapleton, making his third SNL musical guest appearance after taking the stage in 2018 beside fellow Kentucky guitarist Sturgill Simpson and in 2016, opened with the album’s lead single, “White Horse.”
The bluesy track was co-produced by Stapleton’s wife, Morgane, who joined him and his band on vocals and tambourine. “White Horse” won the Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song at the awards ceremony in February.
Stapleton followed that up with “Mountains Of My Mind,” which closes out Higher. This time, he was solo.
One of the many guests expected at next Thursday’s Mavis Staples 85th: All Star Birthday Concert in Los Angeles, Stapleton has U.S. tour dates lined up through August. In October, he heads to Great Britain and Ireland.
