Daily Offer The popular TV show “The Voice” aired live last night after the debate between presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, with host Jon Stewart providing commentary on how the debate went.
“It looks like this is going to be a close race right now,” Stewart told the late-night show’s audience, recalling recent endorsements for both candidates. He mentioned Dick Cheney’s comments about planning to vote for Harris, which prompted Stewart to tell the former vice president to “go away.”
Stewart analyzed the candidates' strategies before entering the debate, and after playing a clip of the first question in the debate, which was about the US economy, Stewart happily pointed out that neither of them had answered the question.
“I just want to say after surviving the PTSD that I got during the last presidential debate, it’s refreshing to go back to the same old saying: ‘Nobody’s going to answer any stupid questions!’” Stewart asserted. “We’re back! America’s back! If you ask them a question, they’ll turn it around and answer any question they want to answer.”
Stewart went over additional questions and answers from the candidates, including how they would handle abortion and Trump rallies. After playing a clip of Harris commenting on the way Trump supporters were leaving his events early, Stewart declared, “You attacked what is dearest to Donald Trump’s family: his rally crowds.”
Later, Stewart showed a video of Trump claiming that people in Springfield were eating family pets. “What just happened?” Stewart said as he turned to address the audience from a second camera. “Quick reminder to all pet owners, always remember to keep your dogs on a leash. It’s an important way to keep your dogs from fighting with other dogs, getting hit by a car, or getting eaten by your immigrant neighbors,” the anchor joked.
Ultimately, Stewart concluded that he didn’t know if the debate would change anyone’s mind about who to vote for. “People are terribly fixated on how they view these processes,” he said. “I think what I think is a winning answer for one candidate, someone else might consider a bluff or a lie or something else. It doesn’t matter what they say anymore.”
“But one thing will always be true, and that is the trait of the former president that I have little respect for: whenever he is cornered and forced to face even the smallest consequences for his lies and schemes, he resorts to the greatest of villains. As Shaggy said, ‘It wasn’t me!’ … In any other country, this lack of accountability would have led to disqualification.”
