John Mellencamp lends his name – and cup – A new whisky release, giving both fans and spirits lovers the chance to own something truly personal.

The new release is a collaboration between Hard Truth Distilling Co. and Mellencamp Whiskey Company (founded by the singer’s son, Hud), and features a classic, pure rye whiskey aged in toasted French oak barrels. After resting, the liquor is placed in a collectible glass bottle decorated with a self-portrait of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame legend.

Exclusive Edition

Bottled at 104% (52% ABV)

The new drink’s ingredients are made with 100% Indiana-grown rye and corn—an homage to the singer’s home state. Mellencamp Whiskey says you can expect hints of toasted marshmallow and candied apricot on the palate, followed by notes of “burnt sugar” and vanilla. A light citrus and clove aroma continues, before fading into deep oak, cherry and a “warm black pepper finish.”

Each batch begins with previously unoaked mash bills from Sweet Mash Whisky. The distillery says aging the rye whiskey in new burnt French oak barrels helps add more dimension and complexity to the liquid, while bringing out more fruity flavours in the final product.

Meanwhile, Mellencamp's self-portrait is based on an original oil and canvas painting the singer painted in 2020. The title of the image is: “American Idiot.”

Mellencamp French Oak Harvest Rye is the third of four limited-edition releases from Hard Truth and Mellencamp Whiskey and is available for pre-order now exclusively at ReserveBar.com. A portion of sales supports sustainable agriculture initiatives in Indiana through Farm Aid.

“This whiskey beautifully builds on our mission to produce great whiskeys in partnership with Hard Truth and local farmers who will produce the highest quality regional flavors,” Hud Mellencamp said in a press release.

As for John Mellencamp, he's currently on the road with Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan as part of the Outlaw Music Festival. You can find tickets to see Mellencamp perform here.
