Cobra Kai It beautifully weaves together the 30-year-old rivalry between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) from Karate Kid The film revolves around a new story about a group of young karate students. The new main characters are Sam (Mary Mauser), Miguel (Kolo Mariduena), Ruby (Tanner Buchanan), and Tori (Peyton List), in addition to other supporting characters as part of the larger cast.

Some of these characters have moments of brilliance, while others fade into the background with very little dialogue. However, there are a few secondary characters who deserve more attention. There is one character in particular who is criminally underrated.

Dimitri is the humble opposite of Hook's hatred.

A cast member since Season 1, Dimitri Alexopoulos (Gianni Decenzo) is one of Miguel's outcast “nerd” friends who is constantly bullied by the popular kids at school. As one of the show's main protagonists, he is Eli “Hawk” Moskowitz's (Jacob Bertrand) childhood best friends, and the “brother duo” seems to do everything together.

Dimitri was one of the last to refrain from starting karate training, believing that he did not really have the ability to succeed. While Eli entered the dojo after seeing what Miguel had learned, determined to change his status at school, he was blinded by his newfound power. He changed his hairstyle and mindset, giving him the confidence to succeed. He trained hard and became one of the best fighters. But Eli's attitude also changed dramatically once he became “Hawk”, turning into the bully he had always despised. This is something that Dimitri, who refused to be called Hawk, did not hesitate to point out to his friend.

In contrast, When Dimitri started training, his journey was more difficult. He did not pick up the moves as quickly as others. But he showed his worth thanks to his intelligence. He used practical knowledge to help him understand the mechanics and physics of combat. He became good – truly Good – even able to drop Hook on several occasions. Fans love how Dimitri has remained humble. He even surprises himself sometimes when he throws a kick or a punch, defending himself from someone trying to attack.

But what's most important about Dimitri is that he's arguably the only characterWho hasn't lost parts of himself during the journey? He never went to the famous “dark side,” which most others did at some point in their journey. His only misstep was when Dimitri humiliated Ellie in front of everyone at a party. But that move was more out of desperation than anything else. He saw what was happening to his friend and needed a way to get through to him. The only reason Dimitri stooped that low was to avoid a physical fight, proving that He learned more about karate than anyone else: fighting is only for self-defense, not anger..

Dimitri was not afraid to leave Cobra Kai when he disagreed with the ethics of its methods and teachings. He joined Miyagi-do with the sole purpose of learning self-defense. As the moral compass of the group, Dimitri never fights unless it is absolutely necessary. He also forgives easily, does not hold grudges, and helps his friends through tough times. He convinced both Eli and Miguel to join Miyagi-Do after they left Cobra Kai and realized the errors of their ways. Without Dimitri, in fact, neither character would have continued their karate journey, a fact that is often forgotten.

Fans also love that Dimitri's confidence leads him to Jasmine (Annalisa Cochrane), one of the prettiest and most popular girls in school, who remains his longtime girlfriend. It gives hope to anyone who claims to be a geek or tech nerd that confidence is what women find most attractive. More importantly, He treats Jasmine with respect, honesty and loyalty, and never lets it get to his head that he was able to attract a desirable young woman.Instead, he cherishes this truth and honors it in the way it deserves.

Furthermore, while Eli has given up on his desire to attend MIT right after high school, Dimitri continues on the same path he always has, valuing his education above all else. He still trains, he still fights, and he is more confident than ever. But he has not lost sight of what matters most.

What do fans think about Dimitri?

Fans seem to agree that Dimitri is one of the most underrated characters on the show, with many noting that he has grown on them over the seasons. In a Reddit discussion, a now-deleted Reddit user asked if anyone liked Dimitri, noting that they “find him unbearable but kind of endearing.” Reddit user Ten-Winged-Phoenix says they “love him because he’s one of the only characters on this show who has a sense of humor.”

There's also the relatability element. Reddit user ARRavenclawBookworm says he can “see himself in him,” and kk_ckfan adds that he finds it funny and is “proud of how far he's come while still maintaining his quirky characteristics.”

Described by many as an “outrageous person,” Dr. Ballou noted that Dimitri “represents Mr. Miyagi more than anyone else. He doesn't like fighting and knows that the best solution is to avoid conflict altogether from the start. Miyagi would be proud of him in ways that Daniel doesn't even realize because Daniel has always struggled with discipline and not starting fights.”

Sidraton sums up Dimitri's journey well: “[I] “We hope he gets a screaming moment in the final season by combining the best parts of his character with karate.”

Where does Dimitri stand now?

While Dimitri has always tried to stay close to Ellie, and the two eventually find their way back to each other, he has a hard time dealing with his best friend. Dimitri is busy with his girlfriend while Hook remains single. Dimitri is also still into the same weird stuff he did years ago, while Hook seems to have grown up, or at least grown apart from her. Dimitri's disappointment when Eli revealed that he would not be applying to MIT, thus eliminating the chance of them going together, was palpable. Dimitri remained true to his mistake..

Dimitri had a moment of weakness when he let his anger get the better of him and played rough to defeat Eli in the final tiebreaker match to determine which of them would be able to go to the Sekai-Taikai tournament. He did it more out of anger than a desire to participate. However, since Eli replaced Tori when she withdrew, the two will be able to fight together after all.

Even if he isn’t necessarily the best fighter, Dimitri is a dark horse. He’s unlikely to win it all, and he’ll continue to fade into the background as others take the spotlight. However, chances are he’ll remain the moral compass of the group, and the voice of reason when he’s needed. Dimitri could play a bigger role in the final episodes, supporting his teammates and perhaps dissuading some of them from doing something they might regret. His role has been downplayed in many situations, and overshadowed by the drama caused by others. Hopefully, the final season will rectify that.

When it comes down to it, no matter who wins the Seikai-Taikai tournament, Dimitri is destined to become great. He joined karate to learn self-defense and continues to use it as such. The tournament, the competition, and the win are the icing on the cake. He is arguably the only one who is happy just to be there. But more importantly, he has proven that He deserves It was he who did it. And it was his actions that ensured, time and time again, that everyone else was there too.
