The creative team behind DreamWorks Animation’s “The Wild Robot,” led by writer-director Chris Sanders, will discuss the film’s production process at the VIEW conference this fall in Turin, Italy. The weeklong, English-language conference is celebrating its 25th year with talks, workshops and masterclasses from the best talent in film, television, animation, visual effects and gaming.
Sanders, whose credits include “Lilo & Stitch,” “How to Train Your Dragon” and “The Croods,” will be at the conference along with the film’s production designer Raymond Zibach and visual effects supervisor Jeff Budsberg. The story, based on Peter Brown’s novel, follows the adventures of a robot (voiced by Lupita Nyong’o) who learns to coexist with wildlife after being shipwrecked on an uninhabited island.
Also attending the conference will be “Transformers One” director Josh Cooley, who will present a talk at the conference, which will run from October 14-19. The film, produced by Paramount Animation and Hasbro, tells the origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron. Cooley is known for his work on Pixar’s “The Incredibles,” “Ratatouille,” “Up,” and “Inside Out,” and for directing the Academy Award-winning “Toy Story 4.”
Short films will have their moment in the spotlight at this year’s conference. Among the filmmakers discussing their short films are Loïc Espoche (“Beurk!”), Cristian Arredondo Narváez and Diego Alonso Sánchez de la Barquera (“NUBE”). Additionally, Joseph Wallace, known for his animated short “Salvation Has No Name,” will present “Hand-Made Imaginations: The Animated Worlds of Joseph Wallace” on stage at the event.
“I am thrilled to welcome Chris Sanders and his creative team to VIEW Conference 2024,” said Maria Elena Gutierrez, Conference Director. “Chris’ reputation is nothing short of amazing and I know his new film, Wild Robot, will wow us all. I am equally excited to have so many talented animated short filmmakers on the VIEW Conference program, including the legendary Joseph Wallace and many more. There is no doubt that 2024 will be a great year for animation and I am proud that VIEW Conference will be at the heart of it.”
Previously announced speakers include Inside Out 2 director Kelly Mann, Ultraman: Rising director Shannon Tindle, Dune: Part Two visual effects professionals Paul Lambert and Patrick Heinen, Fallout visual effects supervisor Jay Worth, fantasy artist Jesper Eijsing, artist and production designer Pascal Campion, and Industrial Light & Magic creative director Rob Prideaux.
