Yuvraj Singh Biopic Set at India’s T-Series

Cricket superstar Yuvraj Singh's incredible journey from prodigy to World Cup champion to cancer survivor gets a biopic.

T-Series India’s renowned studio head Bhushan Kumar has unveiled a film chronicling the life and career of the Indian cricket icon, capturing Singh’s triumphs on and off the field. Kumar, who is known for backing high-profile projects like ‘Animal’, ‘Drishyam 2’, ‘Kabir Singh’ and ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’, has teamed up with producer Ravi Bhagchandka to bring Singh’s story to life. Bhagchandka will co-produce through 200 Not Out Cinema. The biopic marks the second time Bhagchandka has brought a cricketer’s life to the big screen, after the 2017 documentary Sachin Tendulkar’s ‘Sachin: A Billion Dreams’.

Singh made his debut for the Punjab Under-16 cricket team at the age of 13. In the 2000 Under-19 World Cup, which India won, Singh was the player of the tournament and was included in the senior squad. He quickly became known for his aggressive left-handed batting and electric fielding. His career reached new heights during India's winning campaign in the 2007 T20 World Cup, where he hit six sixes in a single innings against England's Stuart Broad. The film is expected to recreate this iconic moment, along with Singh's pivotal contributions to India's 2011 World Cup victory, where he was Player of the Series.

However, Singh’s story extends beyond his exploits on the field. In 2011, he was diagnosed with cancer. His subsequent battle and triumphant return to cricket in 2012 captivated the Indian public and cemented his status as an inspiration to millions. Singh also enjoyed success in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He announced his retirement from international cricket in 2019.

“Yuvraj Singh’s life is a compelling story of resilience, triumph and passion. His journey from a promising cricketer to a cricketing hero, and then to a real-life hero, is truly inspiring. I am thrilled to bring a story that needs to be told and heard on the big screen and celebrate his extraordinary achievements,” Kumar said.

“I feel extremely proud that my story will be shared with millions of my fans across the world through Bhushan Ji and Ravi. Cricket has been my greatest love and my source of strength through good and bad times. I hope this film inspires others to overcome their own challenges and pursue their dreams with unwavering passion,” Singh added.

“Yuvraj has been a dear friend for many years. I am honoured that he has trusted us to translate his incredible cricketing journey into a cinematic experience. Yuvi is not just a world champion but a true legend in every sense of the word,” said Bhagchandka.

The director and cast for the project are currently being finalized.
