In a candid conversation with Vogue, Zendaya discussed the significance of the movie on both of their careers, and their personal lives, particularly noting how Holland coped with becoming an international star overnight. She said:
“We were both very, very young, but my career was already kind of going, and his changed overnight. One day you’re a kid and you’re at the pub with your friends, and then the next day you’re Spider-Man. I definitely watched his life kind of change in front of him. But he handled it really beautifully.”
Of course, it was not just Holland who found himself bombarded by fans wherever he went after his appearance in the MCU, having now appeared in several other high-profile movies such as The Greatest Showman, Dune, and the upcoming Challengers, the actress has had to adapt to fame over the years.
“I think growing up, I always felt like when someone asks for a picture, I have to do it, all the time. You have to say yes, because you need to be grateful that you’re here. And while I still feel that way, I also have learned that I can say no, and I can say kindly that I’m having a day off, or I’m just trying to be to myself today, and I don’t actually have to perform all the time. Because I don’t necessarily want my kids to have to deal with this. And what does my future look like? Am I going to be a public-facing person forever?”
What Does the Future Hold for Spider-Man in the MCU?
The partnership between Zendaya and Holland in the Spider-Man series has not only been pivotal for their careers but also for the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe’s iteration of Marvel’s most profitable character. However, where their MCU journey goes next is something that – officially – is yet to be determined.
Despite many rumors of Spider-Man 4 heading into production soon, and arriving sometime before 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, there has been no word from Marvel Studios about the status of the next Spider-Man movie. Even if Holland’s return seems to be guaranteed, especially considering Spider-Man: No Way Home opened the door for the MCU’s version of Venom to make an appearance, but for Zendaya’s MJ, things are not quite as clear thanks to that movie’s ending.
Spider-Man 4: Why Zendaya’s MJ Should Not Appear in the MCU Movie
Although Zendaya’s MJ has been a great addition to the MCU, it might be best she doesn’t return for Spider-Man 4.
With Peter Parker’s identity as Spider-Man being not only secret to the public, but also MJ, the Avengers, and everyone else who knew him, whether Spider-Man will find his way back into the Avengers team, or will be drawn more into the world of incoming “street-level” heroes such as Daredevil, is something that fans still have a little wait to discover.
