Donald Trump held a massive rally in Erie, Pennsylvania at the Bayfront Convention Center on Sunday. It was his second straight appearance in a battleground state this weekend, following his speech Saturday in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, where he called Democratic presidential candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris “mentally disabled” while delivering an anti-immigrant speech.
This time, Trump continued to make the border and immigrants the bogeyman, adding that their presence in this country would require the appointment of officials who would give police the right to be “really violent” versus the “liberal left” that “wants to destroy our country.” He also claimed that crime has risen in cities across the US, which is not the case, according to a report by the Criminal Justice Council.
“Look, we have to let the police do their job, and if they have to they can be very tough. And you know, the funny thing about all this stuff is, look at the department store, the same thing… you see these guys coming out with air conditioners, refrigerators on their backs, “And it's the craziest thing. The police aren't allowed to do their job,” Trump said. “They're told, 'If you do anything, you'll lose your pension – you'll lose your family, your house, your car.'” The police want to do it. The Border Patrol wants to do it…they're not allowed to because the liberal left won't let it. The liberal left wants to destroy them, and they want to destroy our country.”
Trump then imagined giving police a “really violent day” to crack down on crime.
“Now, if you have a really violent day,” Trump said. “Like a guy like Mike Kelly, put him in charge,” he continued, referring to Republican Pennsylvania Rep. Mike Kelly. “Congressman Kelly, put him in charge for a day. Mike, he's a great congressman. Would you say, Mike, that if you were in charge, you would say, “Oh, please don't touch them.” Don't touch them. Let them rob your store?” Trump said. “Let all these stores go out of business, will you?” They're not paying the rent the city's not paying. All — it's a series of events. It's very bad. One hard hour, and I mean very hard, and the word will get out and it will be over immediately. “It ended immediately.”
On Tuesday, October 1, Trump will return to the battleground state of Wisconsin, where he will speak at two different events in Waunakee and Milwaukee.
