Story of Moses’ Lead Luminate Ratings


Netflix is at or near the top of both Nielsen and Luminate‘s streaming rankings every week, but achieved that with some titles that differ from its usual fare during the March 29-April 3 viewing window.

As expected, “3 Body Problem” remained the most-watched streaming original series of the week per Luminate with 964.1 million minutes watched (an estimated 3.6 million views) — unsurprising, as the title is the follow-up from “Game of Thrones” helmers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who created the show alongside Alexander Woo.

But right behind it was “Testament: The Story of Moses,” a biblical series that Netflix calls a “docudrama” that landed on the streamer in time for Easter weekend. Though the project differs from the content typically prioritized by Netflix (and most streamers) it reached a strong 707.8 million minutes watched. Divided by the series’ just over 4-hour runtime, that translates to an estimated 2.8 million views.

On the streaming original films chart, though Amazon Prime Video’s “Road House” continued its hot streak in the No. 1 position with 576.2 million minutes watched (4.8 million views), and Amazon’s “Ricky Stanicky” landed at No. 6 with 121. 6 million minutes (1.1 million views), all other Top 10 titles stream on Netflix.

The No. 2 and No. 3 titles were international films, which is especially notable as Luminate data calculates U.S. viewership alone. “The Wages of Fear,” a remake of the 1954 French film of the same name, hit 246.9 million minutes watched and 2.3 million views, while South African action film “Heart of the Hunter” was watched for 203.5 million minutes and reached 1.9 million views.

Both charts carried several repeat titles. Along with those written above, the TV chart included repeaters “The Gentlemen,” “Homicide: New York,” “Buying Beverly Hills” Season 2, “Palm Royale” and “Physical: 100” Season 2, while the film chart included “Irish Wish,” “Damsel,” “Shirley” and “Leave the World Behind.”

Netflix’s third season of “Is It Cake?” debuted as the No. 5 streaming original series with 303.6 million minutes watched, and the bottom two series on the chart were Disney+’s “Renegade Nell” (177.5 million minutes watched) and Hulu’s “We Were the Lucky Ones” (147.2 million minutes watched).

And on the film side, debuts included “No Pressure” (No. 4 with 164.5 million minutes watched) and “The Beautiful Game” (No. 5 with 125.2 million minutes watched).
