Do you see something double? Well, there's someone in there. Oddity She doesn't see anything, but that doesn't stop her from taking names literally in search of truth, justice, and more. It's a wild story that showcases the immense talents of Irish actress Caroline Bracken (star of the Oscar-nominated The Last Jedi). The quiet girlAs twin sisters, one meets her destiny too soon, setting off a wild ride that will tickle the imaginations of horror and thriller fans everywhere.
Written and directed by Damien McCarthy, Oddity It may take a little longer for the tale of revenge and karma to really kick in, but once its twisty story hits its tense second and third acts, you’ll be begging for more by the time the credits roll. IFC Films seems to be getting a fair share of innovative horror projects these days, after the excellent In a violent nature Earlier this year. And now, Oddity Here to make you feel more stress-free during this extremely hot summer season.
scary brotherhood
There is something strange about the modern tale that Oddity —There are many reasons why you might be feeling these old feelings. First of all, it's the central property where the “magic” happens, or Ted's hidden country house (bohemian rhapsody Starring Gwilym Lee and his wife Dani (Bracken). Remember how Lars von Trier's masterpiece Melancholia was filmed entirely on this sprawling, gorgeous estate? You'll feel the same way in Oddityfor dramatic effect.
Descriptive words like “antique” and “weird” come to mind when consuming this new release from IFC, hence its title, as a deliberately terrifying and disturbing opening sequence shows wife Dani in grave danger despite the strange warning signs broadcast by Olin (Tadhg Murphy), a well-meaning but aggressive local man who was recently released from prison after brutally murdering his mother 17 years earlier. But for some strange and unexplained reason, he already knows that Dani is in danger on her land. It doesn’t help that her husband, Ted, works nights in the same psych ward where Olin has been held for the past few years.
A year later, all Dani has left are memories in the form of photographs and even a certain voice message she once left for her twin sister Darcy, in which she claims to have found a way to “communicate” with their spirits—shortly before death knocked on her door, of course. Dani is still grieving the loss of her sister, and plays the message over and over again, but perhaps not just because she misses her sister.
After one orbit around the sun, Ted has already moved on to a new lover, as he is now dating the spunky young woman Yana (Caroline Minton), who was coincidentally Ted's girlfriend before Danny's horrific death. Yes, Oddity The film thrives without holding anything back from its violent moments, similar to another recent IFC gem. In a violent nature I also enjoyed the large amount of blood.

In a Violent Nature Movie Review: A Bloody, Artistic Horror with a Great Style
Gus Van Sant's trilogy of deaths probably comes to mind in this mind-bending horror film of brain-shaking and grisly murders.
Unbearable tension arises.
Ted clearly wants to move on, but it doesn't help that his dead sister-in-law's job is as an antiques store owner, with a cabinet of antiques that would put Guillermo del Toro to shame. On the anniversary of Danny's death, Ted's sister Darcy unexpectedly visits and insists that he spend the night there, even though Ted has to go out for work, leaving a reluctant Yana alone with this increasingly intrusive and blind presence.
It also doesn't help that Darcy refuses to believe that Olin, the former fugitive who tried to warn Danny, committed the heinous crime a year ago. That's what everyone in town believes, since Olin committed a murder nearly two decades ago. But Olin turns up dead later that night, and Darcy may or may not have some sort of mediumship skills to use inside Ted's strange residence.
From there, the suspense escalates to intentionally unbearable levels, with a terrifying sequence where — let’s not forget — Darcy runs a rather creepy antiques shop and even brings a giant antique with her when she visits Ted. Why? And why does it have to be a creepy wooden doll with hidden treasures hidden inside? Yana wants to jump ship, but of course she can’t find her car keys, so her curiosity grows as she investigates what’s really going on with Darcy and why she’s actually snooping around Ted’s property, which isn’t in the best shape due to ongoing renovations.
All of these small, collective elements, combined with the dynamic and diverse performances of the lead actors, make for a terrifying and frightening tale that will benefit from repeated viewings. Viewers may be divided on the thrilling final moments, but we wouldn't be surprised if Oddity 2 came along.
