MF Doom Gets Action Figure From Super7

MF Doom Gets Action Figure From Super7

Four years after the death of British-American rapper and producer Daniel Doom, his alter ego MF Doom still lives on – now in the form of an animated character.

Pop culture memorabilia company Super7 is preparing to release a moving figure to celebrate the 20th anniversary ofD In memory of “Madvillain,” Doom’s iconic collaboration with music producer Madlib in 2004. Inspired by the comic-book-inspired music video for the song “All Caps,” Super7 created a 16-inch vinyl set of Doom wearing his signature fedora, trench coat, and metal mask.

Released following his third solo album (under his third alias, Victor Vaughn), “Madvillainy” was Doom’s first collaborative project since his days as a member of the iconic ’90s band KMD. The record further cemented the rapper’s presence as an undeniable talent and enigmatic figure in the rap world, especially after adopting the iconography of one of Marvel Comics’ greatest villains. While Super7 has previously released (now sold out) 4-inch figures of Doom inspired by the cover of his 1999 debut “Operation: Doomsday” and a companion piece featuring collaborator Czarface, this release is the standout piece in their series, and it couldn’t come at a better time: just weeks after Marvel Studios announced that Robert Downey Jr. would reprise his role as Dr. Doom in two upcoming “Avengers” films.

Despite Super7’s history as a maker of rapper-inspired action figures, Madvillain is also the first musical artist to be selected for the company’s SuperSize line, joining a diverse lineup of “Peanuts” and “Sesame Street” characters. Not only was the character’s design inspired by the art of James Reitano, who animated and directed the music video for “All Caps,” but he also comes in a box featuring new images created by Reitano specifically for this release. Additionally, Super7 has created a capsule collection featuring apparel (t-shirts, sweaters, hats), sticker packs, buttons, and an MF Doom skateboard.

Collectors can pre-order their Madvillain figure on August 5 at 11 a.m. ET, but that window closes on August 7 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
