First trailer One of the craziest films at this year's Cannes Film Festival – the musical thriller about a transgender drug lord, Emilia Perez – He's finally here.
Directed by French director Jacques Audiard, Emilia Perez The film follows the story of Mexican cartel leader Karla Sofia Gascón, who fakes her own death to evade authorities and eventually obtain gender-affirming care. The film also stars Zoe Saldana as Rita, the down-to-earth lawyer Emilia hires to help her pull off this plan, and Selena Gomez as Emilia's now-estranged wife, Jessie Del Monte.
The new trailer doesn't reveal much else, though it's packed with stunning visuals. Unlike many musicals these days, Emilia BHRice The film certainly doesn't try to hide the fact that it's a musical, prominently featuring one of its original songs in the trailer and showing clips of some big dance numbers as well.
Along with Gascon, Sandana, and Gomez, Emilia BHRice The film stars Adriana Paz and Edgar Ramirez. Clément de Gaulle composed the film's music, while French singer and actress Camille composed the film's songs with the help of a Mexican translator.
Emilia BHRice The film was one of the highlights of this year's Cannes Film Festival, receiving one of the longest standing ovations at the festival. The film won the Jury Prize; Gascón, Gomez, Paz and Saldana shared the Best Actress award; and DeColl and Camille won the Original Score award.
In his review, Rolling StoneDavid Fair is called Emilia Perez “A strong contender for the title of the craziest film ever made” at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. He later added: “We love Audiard’s work to death, and Emilia Perez proves that he refuses to play it safe; equal parts wry gestures and tender, honest exchanges make this one of the biggest twists of his career.”
Emilia Perez The film will hit select theaters on November 1 before hitting Netflix on November 13.
