Barbra Streisand Will Open Up Personal Archives for New Documentary


Barbra Streisand has announced a multi-part documentary is in production, covering her personal archive and chronicling her illustrious career.

The singer/actress/activist collaborated with EGOT award-winning producer Frank Marshall and documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney on the project, with Streisand providing “hundreds of hours of never-before-seen personal video, photos, audio recordings and personal memorabilia throughout her acclaimed career,” Jigsaw Productions and Kennedy/Marshall said in a press release.

“By drawing on this treasure trove of archival material alongside contemporary facts, the documentary will offer an in-depth look at Streisand’s star-studded past and her current artistic endeavors.”

“I’ve been thinking for years about the best way to share the vast amount of content I’ve been safely stashed away in my vault,” Streisand added in a statement. “These films, photos and soundtracks — which the public has never seen or heard — hold some of my most treasured memories. I’m so happy that producer Alex Gibney and director Frank Marshall have agreed to take this journey with me.”

The documentary will cover Streisand's life from her upbringing in Brooklyn to her time in the New York nightclub scene to her music and film career – including being the first woman to write, produce, direct and star in a major motion picture with It is not possible – For obtaining EGOT status.

“I am thrilled to be working with Alex again and to have the opportunity to bring Barbara’s incredible life story to the screen,” Marshall said in a statement. “We have been given unprecedented access to archival footage from decades of her groundbreaking career and an intimate look at the pioneering work she continues to do in life today. Revealing these incredible moments illustrates why she has become an enduring icon for a global audience of all generations.”

Sony Music Vision will serve as distributor for the as-yet-untitled documentary, which has no release date yet.
