While it seems that Gunn is not in any kind of hurry to follow in the footsteps of Zack Snyder and put his name to a Justice League movie, there are plenty of other things going on in the first phase of DC Studios movies to keep fans occupied for a few years. The first movie in the new live-action franchise will be Superman next year, but as Gunn works on that movie, an AI-created concept trailer released on YouTube by Stryder HD imagines a Justice League compiled of some fan favorite castings – including the return of Henry Cavill, but not in that role.
The trailer, which is made up of more than 20 moving images, delivers a strikingly realistic look at what many of the most prominent fan-castings could look like if they came to be. This includes Jensen Ackles as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Jason Momoa as Lobo, Emilia Clarke as Mera, Tom Hiddleston as John Constantine, and the true castings of David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult as Superman and Lex Luthor respectively. Check out the video below.
The DCU Has Many More Characters to be Cast
Although James Gunn has unveiled many superhero castings for his Superman reboot, there are still many prominent figures from DC lore that have yet to find a star to play them in this new continuity of the franchise.
Many fans balked at the number of heroes that are being included in next year’s movie, initially complaining that the overcrowding of the film would likely lead to its downfall. However, Gunn is no stranger to building ensemble casts, and, just like his Guardians of the Galaxy movies, a large cast of characters to play with is not something that immediately means the final product is going to be an overstuffed turkey.
Outside the casting of Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, there are many prominent roles that will be given a new face in the near future. This includes another new Batman, but who will take over the role of the Dark Knight in The Brave and the Bold is one of the hottest debates among both fans and actors. Several stars, including Reacher’s Alan Ritchson, have put themselves in the frame, but currently, Gunn seems to be in no rush to make that casting decision just yet.
‘I Want to Be Bruce Wayne!’: Reacher Star Alan Ritchson Declares That He Wants to Play Batman
Alan Ritchson is now shouting “from the rooftops” that he wants to play The Dark Knight in the DCU.
In the meantime, there are many fans out there who continue to share speculative pieces of artwork that capture what every eligible actor – and a few who are most certainly not – would look like if they suited up as the new guardian of Gotham. Whether any of them will be correct is something Gunn has suggested will not be revealed for some months yet, as the script for The Bold and the Brave continues to be developed.
Superman
will kick off the DCU’s live-action movies in cinemas on July 11, 2025.
