Johnny Depp's second film, Moody – Three Days on the Wings of Madness, is set to premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival next month.
The film, which stars Riccardo Scamarcio as the famous Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani, is set to premiere in the festival’s out-of-competition section. According to its synopsis, “Modi” is “a story of art, love and rejection” that “follows a chaotic 72-hour whirlwind of events through the streets and bars of a war-torn Paris during World War I.” The film also stars Stephen Graham, Al Pacino and Antonia Desplat.
“Moody” marks Depp’s return to directing after his critically panned 1997 debut “The Brave Ones.” It’s also one of the actor’s first projects since his 2022 legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, who sued her for defamation after she accused him of domestic violence. Depp ultimately won the case, though the controversy has taken a toll on his career. He returns to Cannes in 2023 with the world premiere of Maïwenn’s “Jeanne du Barry.” “Moody” was rumored to have made its Venice Film Festival debut, but it was ultimately not picked up.
In a statement alongside images from the set of “Moody,” Depp described making the film as “an incredibly fulfilling and transformative experience.”
