Kamala Harris’s 2019 memoir “The Truths We Hold” topped the bestseller list again after her presidential nomination this week. The current vice president is now the leading Democratic candidate after Joe Biden officially dropped out of his reelection bid Sunday afternoon.
The renewed interest in political campaign memoirs is a long-standing trend, which is why many politicians have at least one book outlining their political experience and beliefs before running for office. Harris’s memoir was published before the 2020 Biden-Harris ticket.

Truths We Believe by Kamala Harris
In her 336-page memoir, now an Amazon bestseller, Harris recounts her journey from prosecutor to California attorney general to U.S. senator, explaining how she applies a holistic, data-driven approach to global issues—from taking on big banks to rejecting harmful “tough on crime” rhetoric. Her motto: “Neither tough nor soft,” but “smart on crime.”
Other issues she touched on include health care, the new economy, immigration, national security, the opioid crisis, and accelerating inequality — all of which are at the forefront of Americans’ minds ahead of the 2024 election.
Harris formally launched her White House bid on Sunday, after Biden resigned under pressure from party leaders. The vice president has Biden’s endorsement and is currently unopposed for the Democratic nomination, which will be formally decided at the Aug. 19 convention in Chicago.
“I am honored to receive the President’s endorsement, and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” Harris said in a statement. “I will do everything I can to unite the Democratic Party — and unite our nation — to defeat Donald Trump and his extremist Project 2025 agenda. We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. Together, we will win.”
