Nicky Jam’s collaboration with Maná, “De Pies a Cabeza,” is no longer available on streaming services. On Monday morning, the Mexican rock band announced that it had pulled the song from the internet after the reggaeton star publicly endorsed Donald Trump.
“Mana does not work with racists,” said Alvera's statement.
On Friday night, Jam joined Trump on stage in Las Vegas to support him, telling the crowd: “We need you. We need you back, right? We need you to be president.”
The endorsement came seconds after Trump brought Nikki on stage and called her “she,” saying, “You know Nikki? She's hot. Where's Nikki?”
Originally, Mana welcomed Jam on a new version of the 1992 classic “De Pies a Cabeza” in 2016. At the time, Jam said the band were his “idols” early in his career. “I never imagined I would get to work with them, so this is a blessing,” he said at the time. BillboardBefore its removal, the song had over 120 million streams on Spotify alone.
The members of Mana have been vocal supporters of Democratic causes—and have pushed for immigration reform—over the years. Following a debate before the 2016 election, lead singer Vir Olvera criticized Trump's stance on immigration.
“The way Trump expresses himself about Mexicans and the Latino community is amazing,” he wrote in Spanish on Twitter. “As many people have assumed, he is racist.”
In 2020, the band celebrated Joe Biden's victory, posting a post titled “Make America Nice Again.” The band wrote, “Values have triumphed over thrift. There is unity in diversity.”
Mana's decision to pull “De Pies a Cabeza” from the airwaves comes after other reggaeton stars, including Anuel AA and Justin Quiles, pledged support for the former president.
