Seth Meyers has his first comedy special with HBO.
The “Late Night” host and “Saturday Night Live” alumnus taped his stand-up comedy hour in front of a live audience at the Vic Theater in Chicago.
The special will premiere sometime this fall on HBO and will be available to stream on Max.
“Critics say it will be a special experience that my kids will be talking about in therapy twenty years from now!” Myers joked.
Neal Brennan, co-creator of comedy and “The Chappelle Show,” is directing the special, which was written by Meyers and produced by Irwin Entertainment, as well as Meyers and Mike Shoemeyers through their company Sethmaker Shoemeyers Productions.
“As longtime fans, we are thrilled to partner with Seth on his first HBO special,” Nina Rosenstein, HBO’s executive vice president of programming and specials, said in a statement. “He is a deeply engaging storyteller and we have always loved the way he reaches people on such a personal level. This special is endlessly relatable and incredibly fun to watch.”
Prior to hosting NBC’s “Late Night,” where he has been running The Office since 2014, Meyers was the head writer for “Saturday Night Live,” as well as the host of the flagship “Weekend Update” segment. In 2019, he released his first comedy special, “Lobby Baby,” on Netflix, earning an Emmy nomination for writing a variety special. In total, Meyers has earned 33 Emmy nominations. If that wasn’t enough, Meyers also wrote a children’s book, “I’m Not Scared, You’re Scared,” in 2022, and currently hosts two podcasts, “Family Trips with the Meyers Brothers” and “The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast.”
