Snoop Dogg Named Olympic Flame Torchbearer

Before the opening ceremony, the rapper will tour the Saint-Denis neighborhood of Paris as the torch heads to the Olympic cauldron.

PARIS – The Paris Olympic Games are in full swing. The torch relay across France has already begun, currently passing through Yvelines to Hauts-de-Seine. After these areas have been covered, the penultimate leg of the journey before the opening ceremony will begin tomorrow, when Snoop Dogg will carry the torch on the section through Saint-Denis.

The rapper joined hundreds of torchbearers who helped the Olympic flame journey through France, which began on May 8. Saint-Denis is part of Stage 67 on the way to Paris. The stage starts in the Pleyel district before traveling through the Olympique Village to Saint-Denis. From there, it travels down the Canal Saint-Denis to the Parc de la Villette Club de France, the Canal Saint-Martin, and the Concert-Basilica de Saint-Denis. After that, its next stop is the Olympic Cauldron.

The final torchbearer who will conclude the weeks-long Olympic relay has yet to be revealed, but they have some big shoes to fill. Snoop has been a fixture on the team since he began his stint as a guest commentator for the Paris 2024 Games. When the games officially kick off on July 26, the rapper will be the go-to source for special reports on NBC and Peacock’s primetime Olympics program. Last month, he appeared at the U.S. track and field team trials and completed the 200-meter mock in 34.44 seconds.

Snoop will be attending Olympic events, stopping by brands around Paris, and meeting with competing athletes, as well as the friends and family members who cheer them on. His account of a disfigured horse from the Tokyo 2021 equestrian event is what landed him the commentator job in the first place. “I’m going to meet the horse in real life,” the rapper said earlier this year. “He’s the returning champion. So I gotta go meet him — you know what I’m saying? — and tell him I’m a huge fan.”
