What Is Station 19 About?
Station 19 is an action-drama series that debuted on ABC in 2018. Created as a spin-off to the long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, the series follows several emergency responders working at Seattle Fire Department’s Station 19. Aside from protecting Seattle from dangerous fires, the show follows the characters’ personal lives as they weigh their professional responsibilities with the pursuit of happiness outside of work. Several crossover episodes with Grey’s Anatomy take place, extending the universe of Grey Sloan Hospital and the network of medical experts in Seattle, Washington.
Although several beloved characters were killed off before the series finale, those who remain and play key roles in the finale include Lt. Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz), Dr. Ben Warren (Jason George), Captain Robert Sullivan (Boris Kodjoe), Lt. Jack Gibson (Grey Damon), Victoria Hughes (Barrett Doss), Theo Ruiz (Carlos Miranda), Travis Montgomery (Jay Hayden), Dr. Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato), and wife, Maya DeLuca-Bishop (Danielle Savre). As a gigantic wildfire threatens to subsume Seattle, the members of Station 19 demonstrate heroic bravery to prevent irreparable damage. Afterward, several characters make profound decisions about their lives and careers in Seattle.
The Set-Up for Station 19’s Finale
The Station 19 finale begins with Season 7, Episode 9, “How Am I Supposed to Live With You.” In the episode, a torrid wildfire outside Seattle prompts an emergency response from Station 19. However, the staff is shorthanded when Vic Hughes suddenly moves to Washington, DC. In Washington, Vic plans to expand the Crisis One response team she created with the deceased Dean Miller. Vic’s relocation upsets her friend and colleague Travis Montgomery, who agrees to stay in Seattle to fight the blaze.
As the other firefighters tackle the blaze, Theo disobeys orders to protect a building and begins helping random civilians flee from danger. Theo spots a tree branch about to fall on Travis and heroically pushes Travis out of the way. The branch falls on Theo and crushes his leg. With the team left even more shorthanded, Theo is evacuated via helicopter and taken to Grey Sloan Hospital in Seattle for surgery. The most memorable moment comes when the crew sleeps atop their fire engine at night, recollecting their priceless time together throughout the years.
