Antony Starr has become well known for playing a less than heroic comic book role as Homelander in The Boys, but there have been several recent rumors suggesting that he could be about to flip to the right side of the superhero world by becoming Booster Gold in the DCU. It does not take much to spark casting rumors, and this case is no exception, as the basis for the belief that Starr is joining the DCU is the fact that he and James Gunn recently started following each other’s accounts on Instagram.

Of course, with prominent speculation comes great procrastination, and Starr has played along with this rule by playing coy about any potential move to Gunn’s new DC playground in the future. During an interview with ComicBook.com around the upcoming return of The Boys, Starr was asked about his possible inclusion in one of the upcoming projects of the new DCU, and he said:
“Me and James just play golf. I cannot wait to see what he does with the DC Universe. I think he’s a phenomenal director, producer, talent. He’s one of the biggest brands in the industry, so I’m excited to see what he cooks up.”
So, once again, fans are left to sleuth it out to decide whether this is Starr honestly saying there isn’t a story here, or simply being evasive enough that he doesn’t let the cat out of the bag until the right time.
Antony Starr Could Be Looking for New Role if The Boys Ends
While Antony Starr is clearly settled in his role as Homelander in The Boys, there is a question of whether he will be looking for a new role in the coming years. The Boys is about to unveil Season 4, and Season 5 has already been green-lit, but everything has a shelf-life and TV shows can very easily come to their end of theirs quicker than expected.
With the DCU actively looking to recruit actors to put in a long-term commitment similar to that of the original Avengers team of the MCU, Starr could still end up being part of one ensemble or another even if it turns out not to be Booster Gold. The first phase of Gunn’s saga is set to kick off with the animated series Creature Commandos and Superman, but will also include the Green Lantern series Lanterns, Wonder Woman series Paradise Lost, and feature films Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Swamp Thing, alongside a project focused on The Authority. All of this comes with the hint that there are other projects still to be announced that will bring many of these characters together.
The Boys’ Antony Starr Weighs in on Homelander vs. Superman Debate: ‘Homie Would Fight So Dirty’
Antony Starr responds to Jack Quaid’s belief that the Man of Steel would win the day should he ever come face-to-face with Homelander.
Beyond the casting for Creature Commandos, Superman, and naming his Supergirl, Gunn has played down several other rumors, particularly when it comes to his reboot of Batman in The Brave and the Bold. That has only opened up many other opportunities for fans to make up their own minds about who should be case in this and other pivotal roles in the franchise. For now, though, that speculation is all anyone can go on until official announcements are made about the next group of heroes joining the DCU rebirth.
The Boys
