Director M. Night Shyamalan presents his latest film, “Entrapment.”
Shyamalan's new film, starring Josh Hartnett as a serial killer who is lured into a police undercover operation while at a concert with his daughter, has grossed $2.2 million in its opening weekend at the box office.
The film is expected to make between $15 million and $20 million in its opening weekend, but it won’t compete with last week’s big box office hit “Deadpool & Wolverine.” The Marvel blockbuster is expected to add between $75 million and $95 million in its second weekend, down 55% to 65% from its record-breaking $211 million. The film was the biggest movie at the box office that weekend, breaking the record for an R-rated film, and will once again dominate the box office this weekend.
Warner Bros.' “Trap” follows Cooper (Hartnett), a father who takes his teenage daughter Riley (Arielle Donoghue) to a concert by Lady Raven (played by Shyamalan's daughter, R&B singer Salika). In classic Shyamalan fashion, Cooper turns out to be a serial killer, known as The Butcher, and the concert is actually a police plot to catch him. The rest of the cast includes Kid Cudi, Hayley Mills, Tim Ross, Alison Pill, and more.
The film will compete with Universal's “Twisters,” which is looking to make between $17 million and $19 million in its third weekend. Sony's “Harold and the Purple Crayon,” starring Zachary Levi, is expected to make between $6 million and $7 million. The film made $725,000 in previews.
