Sheldon Cooper consists of a few realistic effects.
While Parsons' nephew may have inspired the younger version of the character, Sheldon Cooper already had a fair number of real-life influences before his debut in Big Bang Theory.
While I was at the Bali Festival, Big Bang Theory Co-creator Bill Prady said the character grew out of his time as a computer programmer, basing his design for Sheldon on someone he described as a “human calculator.” He could do complex math problems in his head, but he didn't like calculating tips, and believed that judging service needed more human input than a digital touch. Sheldon and Leonard Hofstadter were also named in honor of actor Sheldon Leonard.
Interestingly, before Parsons was cast in the role, Chuck Lorre originally intended for Johnny Galecki to play the character, but the actor felt he was better suited to the role of Leonard. Brady said he was so impressed with Parsons' reading of the character that he felt he “must have been lucky” to get him the part. Parsons was reportedly so good that he almost lost out on the role, as the producers were worried he wouldn't be able to replicate it.
