- A DC Universe animated original movie.
It has been more than a month since Gunn and his large cast got together for the first time on the set of Superman, so that the new Man of Steel movie can meet its release date. But Corenswet has taken a short break from filming to present The Greatest Hits, a new romantic comedy in which he stars alongside Lucy Boynton and Justin H. Min.
During a special presentation of the film, which is now available on Hulu, the actor answered some questions about that project and also about Superman, revealing two of the comic books that inspired James Gunn when writing the story: All-Star Superman and For All Seasons, though he also confirmed that the plot is original, and those titles can only help fans get an idea of the film’s vibe.
In addition to Corenswet, Superman stars The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel‘s Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as the main villain and the Man of Steel’s greatest nemesis, Lex Luthor. The cast also includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.
What Are All-Star Superman and For All Seasons About?
Published in 2005, written by Grant Morrison and drawn by Frank Quitely and Jamie Grant, All-Star Superman was one of the first comic books that James Gunn mentioned as inspiration for his version of Superman. The story presents a Man of Steel who has been a hero of Earth for a long time, who, after a mission in which he is exposed to solar radiation, discovers that he is dying. With not much time left, Clark Kent decides to conquer the dreams he has put aside for his work as Superman, especially his love for Lois Lane, all while fighting the most epic battle against his greatest enemy, Lex Luthor.
Every DC Character Confirmed for James Gunn’s Superman (So Far)
James Gunn’s new Superman film will feature many DC characters; here is a breakdown of every confirmed character and actor.
For All Seasons, meanwhile, was written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by Tim Sale and does present an origin story for the character but in a slightly different way. Described as a coming-of-age story, something similar to what The CW tried to do with Smallville, this comic book focuses on how Clark discovered his powers and went from being the adopted son of some Kansas farmers to discovering unimaginable abilities that would eventually turn him into a hero.
Superman
will debut in cinemas on July 11, 2025.
