Goosebumps is based on the popular young-adult horror novels by R.L. Stine, and has already produced a successful TV show in the 1990s, as well as the Jack Black movie, its sequel and various other multimedia projects. This latest return to television is now starting to build up its next story. In Season 2, the show will “follow teenage siblings who discover a threat stirring, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, the duo find themselves entangled in a chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.”

According to the press release, Schwimmer will take on the role of former botany professor Anthony, who is also the divorced father of the twins.

Goosebumps returned to screens last year, and kicked off its new series with a lot of promise. However, things drifted a little as the show progressed, and the reviews reflected this. Overall, the series managed to maintain a “fresh” critics score of 74% on Rotten Tomatoes, which was slight higher than its audience approval rating of 70%.

Starring Justin Long, Rachel Harris, Zack Morris and Isa Briones, the first season saw a group of five high school students investigating the death of a teenager three decades earlier, and on their journey discovering some dark secrets about their parents. At the time of the show’s debut, many believed that any subsequent seasons would be a continuation, especially with the first season ending on a cliffhanger. However, whether by design or necessity to start afresh with Season 2, the show became another anthology series by the time the second season renewal came about.

R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps has seen a resurgence with the new Disney+ series. Here are the best characters from the new adaptation.

Goosebumps seemed to land in a strange place with its inaugural season, with both positive and negative reviews almost mirroring each other. Those who loved the series praised its goofiness, mix of comedy and scares and its ability to tap into the old school charm of Stine’s books and the original ‘90s TV show. Those who hated it, seem to mostly do so for the exact same reasons. Whether Season 2 can win over those not quite on board with its first run is something we will discover when it debuts on Disney+ sometime in the future. In the meantime, Season 1 of Goosebumps is available to stream on Disney+.

David Schwimmer is next set to appear in Darren Aronofsky’s
Little Death
, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
