‘It’s a Sad State of Affairs’

‘It’s a Sad State of Affairs’

Summary

  • Skeet Ulrich likely won’t reprise his role as Billy Loomis in
    Scream 7.
  • Ulrich addressed Melissa Barrera’s controversial firing from the
    Scream
franchise for speaking out in support of the Palestinian cause regarding Israel’s attack on Gaza.
  • Ulrich is excited to star in his new series,
    Parish,
alongside Giancarlo Esposito, and is thrilled by the entire cast and the show’s potential.

Given that the ghostly version of Billy Loomis only appeared for Samantha Carpenter to see in the last two Scream entries, it’s unlikely actor Skeet Ulrich will reprise the role of the serial-killing Loomis in Scream 7. The actress who brought Sam to the big screen in Scream (2022) and Scream VI, Melissa Barrera, was controversially fired from the franchise. And while promoting his new series, Parish, Ulrich addressed the possibility of his return and Barrera’s firing in an exclusive interview with MovieWeb:

“I don’t know. I don’t really see a way that happens, but it’s a strange town. Who knows? I haven’t heard either way to be honest. I think it’s a sad state of affairs.
[Melissa Barrera] was really just out for humanitarian reasons and suffers from it. It’s really sad to me
. Everybody involved in that are such beautiful, caring, loving, empathetic people, and the labels are not fitting. So, it’s sad. I don’t know what’s coming down the line for Scream in general.
I would imagine I’m probably out of it. But that’s okay. There’s more to do
.”

Sam is the biological daughter of Billy Loomis, which helps account for her unique connection to the ghost or hallucination of the serial killer who suited up as Ghostface in the seminal original. And it’s important to remember that Loomis collaborated with Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) — both donning the disguise — to pull off those grizzly crimes in director Wes Craven’s Scream (1996).

Skeet Ulrich Is ‘Blown Away’ by His New Series Parish

Skeet Ulrich portrayed one of the best Scream characters to appear in the entire franchise, but the actor hasn’t been pigeonholed by the role he first brought to life on the silver screen nearly 30 years ago. Today, Ulrich is starring alongside Giancarlo Esposito in the upcoming AMC crime drama, Parish, which debuts March 31. And Ulrich is “blown away” by his new series. Ulrich said in the same interview with MovieWeb:

“I’m blown away to be honest. I’ve done this for a long time now. You’re always excited. You hope that things come to the screen the way you imagined and as they felt on the day.
This surpassed that by a million miles
. I sat there watching about 10 minutes into the pilot and just found myself giggling.”

Skeet Ulrich is a seasoned star that has an illustrious career spanning over 30 years, having first skyrocketed to stardom in the slasher hit Scream.

Ulrich continued:

“I was like, ‘I can’t believe I’m a part of this.’ I don’t care how big or small my part is, whatever.
It is such an honor
. They’re truly extraordinary performers across the board. Obviously Giancarlo, but everybody is phenomenal. It’s just really a wild, inspiring, and interesting piece that has so much to say to the everyman.”

While the return of Ulrich’s Billy Loomis is still up in the air, it’s been confirmed that creator Kevin Williamson is set to direct the upcoming entry and actress Neve Campbell will return as Sidney Prescott for Scream 7. Courteney Cox is also currently in talks to reprise the role of Gale Weathers, so bringing back Ulrich would reunite three of the original film’s stars in the sixth sequel. But without Sam (Barrera), perhaps Loomis’ return could happen through the eyes of his ex-girlfriend, Sidney Prescott (Campbell).

Fans of Ulrich can watch him in
Parish
when the crime drama’s Season 1 pilot drops Sunday, March 31 at 9:15 p.m. EDT on
AMC.
The first episode will then be repeated at 11:21 p.m. and can also be streamed on AMC+.
