Waiting is Joe Jonas officially released “Work It Out” on Friday, his first single in over 10 years, from his upcoming album. Music for people who believe in love.
He said in a statement that the song shows him reflecting on “life from a bird's eye view, recognizing the many blessings around me.” He described the song as a “celebration of gratitude, hope and love” as it touches on his experience as a father and finding happiness “in doing what I love for a living.”
“Come on Joe, you’ve got a lot to be grateful for/Stop being sad because you’re making the room uncomfortable,” Jonas sings in the opening verse, as the chorus hears him declare: “No, no one’s gonna save you now/No, no one’s gonna get you out/Put your shoulders off the ground/Life’s gonna work it out.”
Jonas officially announced the new era earlier this week, telling Jake Shane on Healer He said he wrote the song with Plush and Jason Evigan “very quickly.”
“Sometimes you realize you have to let go of something and you’re the only one who’s going to fix it yourself,” he told the podcast host about the song. “No one’s going to come save you. It’s emotional lyrics with a fun music.”
Jonas also told Shane that “Work It Out” was initially intended for the Jonas Brothers, but he realized the song was more personal and related to his own experience.
“I asked for my brothers’ blessings, and I said, ‘Hey, I want to work on this — I don’t want to call it a solo act, but I want to do something on my own, and I don’t feel like this is DNCE, and I just need to express some things for myself,’” Jonas said. “And they were like, ‘Do it.’”
Jonas has been teasing solo music for months. In March, he posted a TikTok video of himself in the studio with the caption, “The way I would embody this trend if I wasn’t in the studio working on something new.”
The song is Joe's first solo effort since 2011. Fast lifewhich was dropped after the Jonas Brothers went on hiatus. He also released an album with his band DNCE in 2016, and joined Khaled in dedication The band released the soundtrack for “Not Alone” in 2022, and has released several singles for movie soundtracks before then.
The new song also comes just months after he filed for divorce from actress Sophie Turner after four years of marriage. The former couple went through a contested divorce, including a lawsuit filed by Turner that has now been dropped.
