Taylor Swift Makes History at 2024 MTV VMAs With Record-Breaking Wins


Taylor Swift had a huge, record-breaking night at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.

In winning Video of the Year for Fortnite – Tortured Poets Section Single with Post Malone — Swift became the first female artist ever to win the award three years in a row. She also extended her record for the most Video of the Year awards to five, having previously won in 2023 for “Anti-Hero” and 2022 for “Best of the Year.” Everything is fine: the short filmIn 2019, she won an Oscar for the song “You Need to Calm Down”, and in 2015 she won an Oscar for the song “Bad Blood”.

“To the fans, I always try to find a way to say thank you for making my life what it is, for making the Eras Tour what it has become, and for making Tortured Poets Section “It was just that,” Swift said in her speech. “Everything you did was made possible by your votes for this award. So thank you to MTV for giving me this opportunity to thank the fans, and thank you for what you did.”

The pop star entered the show on the cusp of a major milestone with her 12 nominations. The evening ended with her tied with Beyoncé for the most-decorated VMA winner of all time, technically surpassing her tally as a solo artist. By the 2024 VMAs, Swift had 23 VMAs to Beyoncé’s 30, which included her work as a solo artist, with Destiny’s Child, and alongside Jay-Z in The Carters. She has 25 on her own. Swift’s seven wins tonight were enough to put her above Beyoncé on the solo front. Beyoncé was nominated for three awards this year but didn’t add any new trophies to her collection.

In addition to Video of the Year, Swift's awards included Artist of the Year, Best Pop Song, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, Best Editing, and Song of the Summer. She was also nominated for Best Breakthrough Performance at the VMAs for her 2009 performance of “You Belong With Me” on the New York City subway (a performance that was overshadowed by a completely different incident involving Swift).

Swift's VMAs night comes as the pop star prepares for the final leg of her The Eras tour. The North American leg is set to kick off on October 18 and run through mid-December, with shows scheduled in Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Toronto and Vancouver.
