Theresa Chambers, Booker for Mercury Lounge, Bowery, Dies at 64

Teresa Chambers — a talent coordinator at the Mercury Lounge, Bowery Ballroom and other venues whose career spanned Studio 54 days — died on Aug. 11, her family representative confirmed. diverse. The cause of death has not been announced. She was 64 years old.

“Teresa was one of a kind, always fighting for her beliefs and actions,” said Steve Ferguson, agent at Paladin Artists. “And that infectious laugh! I will truly miss her.”

Born in New York City, Chambers' career dates back to the early 1980s when she was Steve Rubell's assistant at the legendary Studio 54 in Manhattan. Over the years she has also worked at APA and as a talent agent for Ron Delsener Presents.

But over the past three decades, Chambers has had great success as a concert-booking institution at iconic New York venues like the Bowery Ballroom, Mercury Lounge, Fez, B.B. Kings, and more—nearly every up-and-coming rock band in those years performed at at least one of those venues, and Chambers was well-known to most of them, even as they rose to stardom. She was named Talent Buyer of the Year at the Pollstar Awards in 1999.

Chambers has also worked as a manager for bands such as the Irish Hothouse Flowers and the rock band Something Happens, among many others. She has also worked in various capacities with David Bowie, Herbie Hancock, the Sugarcubes, and Sinead O'Connor.

She is survived by her children Ryan, James and Anna, her brothers Christopher, Paul and Daniel, and her aunt Colleen.

The family is planning a memorial service later in the year; an announcement will be made at that time. Contact Dave Lowry at [email protected] for information.
