The Hateful Eight – Extended Version

Leaving Netflix on April 24

The Hateful Eight is an Oscar-winning mystery drama written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Walton Goggins, and many other prominent actors who contributed to its success. While this film was released in 2015, an extended version consisting of four episodes was released four years later, adding another 40 minutes of content, though only about 18 minutes could be considered completely new footage.

While the longer version is essentially the same, save for a few prolonged dialogues, it is worth watching if you want to break the story into segments and digest it slowly. In addition, the extended version expands on Kurt Russell’s character and makes a few small changes. Set in post-Civil War Wyoming, The Hateful Eight follows John Ruth, a bounty hunter, and Daisy Domergue, his fugitive prisoner due for execution.

While racing towards Red Rock, the duo encounter another bounty hunter, Major Marquis Warren, who claims to be a sheriff. As they seek shelter from the blizzard in an inn, they are welcomed by more strangers who seem suspicious. It turns out that none of the individuals staying at the inn will be able to reach their destination on time, especially since they are all going for each other’s necks at every opportunity. If you’re a fan of Quentin Tarantino’s storytelling and vision, The Hateful Eight is among his best works. However, make sure to see it before Apr. 24 because The Hateful Eight – Extended Version won’t be available on Netflix after that date.
