Talks of a possible revival were first reported on Fox in August 2017.No real progress was made until 2021 and 2022, when more negotiations were revealed. At Comic-Con 2022, Judge announced that the show had a “very good chance” of returning and that projects were in development. But in September 2022, Fox rejected the revival. Hulu stepped in to save The Hills in January 2023, placing an official order for the new show. Cast members Judge, Kathy Najimy, Pamela Adlon, Johnny Hardwick, Lauren Tom, and Stephen Root also signed on for the reboot.

Logistical Issues at the Beginning of King of the Hill Production

Production ran into problems almost immediately.Just a few months after the pickup, a double strike by the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild shut down Hollywood from May to November 2023. Hardwicke also died during the strike in August 2023. While we don't know how far production was at the time of the strike, it was reported that Hardwicke had recorded a few episodes as Dale Gribble before his death.

After the writers' strike ended in September 2023, co-creator Greg Daniels and the writing staff returned to their writers' room.At that point, they were writing the scripts for episodes three and four, while still editing the previous two. With the logistical issues caused by the production shutdown, Daniels estimated that the show wouldn’t be ready to premiere until early 2025. If they can stick to that timeline, we can expect more information in the coming weeks and months. Animation is a time-consuming process, especially when there’s a six-month hiatus in the middle.

King of the Hill Cast Members Who Have Died and Who Won't Be Returning

We do know a few details about what to expect from the story. According to Bobby Hill’s assistant Pamela Adlon, the younger Hill will be between the ages of 12 and 21. Like almost all of the animated characters, Bobby didn’t age at all during the show’s original 13-year run. He’s also reportedly now working as a chef. It’s currently unknown how the revival will handle the deceased and non-returning cast members. We do know that Dale Hardwick will appear in limited capacity. But beyond that, it's unclear if they'll recast him for a future appearance or axe the conspiracy-loving neighbor. The original show featured the late Brittany Murphy and Tom Petty as Hank and Peggy's niece, Luann, and her husband, Lucky.

If the show chooses not to recast these roles, it will be easier for them to deal with the characters' absence. The two got married near the end of the original series, so Renaissance could easily say that she has moved away from Arlene. It is currently unknown whether Toby Huss, who voiced Hank Cotton's father and Hills Caan's neighbor, will return. But it is unlikely that he will, as Cotton passed away in the show's 12th season. Regarding Huss, who is white, as Caan, Daniels said: TV line It was

“I'm not sure if Khan will return. But I think we'll probably replace Toby's voice with Khan. For example, if we were casting today, we wouldn't cast him.”

While Hulu and the production team have been tight-lipped about the King of the Hill Although the series is still in production, it is still going strong. And if the series can stick to the timeline Daniels has outlined, we could be seeing Hank, Peggy, Bobby, and the whole gang back in just a few short months, possibly sometime in 2025. That would be very good news, we can tell you. King of the Hill It is streaming on Hulu.
